About Learning Disabled Programs and Services

This school accepts Learning Disabled students according to the following definition:
According to the National Joint Committee on Learning Disabilities, a learning disability is a "general term that refers to a heterogeneous group of disorders manifested by significant difficulties in the acquisition and use of listening, speaking, reading, writing, reasoning, or mathematical abilities." A learning disability is presumably due to central nervous system dysfunction, and is not primarily due to other handicapping conditions, environmental, or cultural influences. It is not a form of mental retardation, or an emotional disorder.
  • There is no limit to the number of Learning Disabled students.
  • There is no limit to the percent of students allowed into the Learning Disabled program.
  • There were 400 students in the Learning Disabled program in 1995.


Application Requirements

  • Diagnostic tests are required.
  • A personal interview is not neccessary.
  • Untimed tests are accepted.
  • GED certification is accepted.
  • C is the minimum letter grade average accepted.


Learning Disabled Student Services
  • List of applicable services for Learning Disabled students:
    • Oral Tests
    • Readers
    • Tutors
    • Talking Books
    • Untimed Tests
    • Other: Other services available on individual basis.
  • Learning Disabled students are tutored individually and in small groups.
  • Credit is not given for remedial courses taken.


Learning Disabled Term and Staff Information
  • The Learning Disabled student program runs on a partial term.
  • A lighter course load is not given to Learning Disabled students.
  • Additional time is not given to complete degree.
  • No extra cost for Learning Disabled students.
  • There are 3 full-time staff persons available to work with Learning Disabled students.
